Structural Steel Estimator – Industrial Skids & Piping (Houston, TX)
WeldIT Mobile Welding is hiring a structural steel estimator to join our industrial fabrication team in Houston, Texas. This role is dedicated to estimating industrial work only: skid packages, process and equipment skids, pipe racks, and fabricated piping. If you can take a set of skid drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs and turn them into an accurate, competitive bid, we want to talk to you.
Structural Steel Estimator Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for industrial skid packages, process and equipment skids, pipe racks, and piping fabrication
- Perform material takeoffs for skid frames, base plates, grating, handrail, ladders, platforms, and pipe supports
- Perform piping takeoffs from isometrics and P&IDs, including pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and welds by size and schedule
- Review drawings, specifications, weld procedures, and client requirements to define the scope of work and materials required
- Estimate fabrication labor, welding, NDE, blasting and coating, and shop assembly hours for skid and piping packages
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to gather the information needed for estimating
- Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs to develop accurate estimates
- Use construction estimating software to build comprehensive, well-organized estimates
- Prepare bid packages and submit proposals to industrial clients
- Negotiate pricing with steel and pipe suppliers and subcontractors to keep bids competitive
- Monitor project costs throughout fabrication and make adjustments to stay within budget
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience estimating industrial fabrication, structural steel, or piping
- Hands-on experience estimating skid packages, process skids, or fabricated piping is strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 process piping and AWS D1.1 structural welding requirements
- Proficient in reading and interpreting structural drawings, piping isometrics, P&IDs, weld symbols, and contracts
- Excellent math skills with the ability to perform complex weight, diameter-inch, and cost calculations
- Familiarity with construction estimating software
- Strong negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and stakeholders
Job Details
- Job types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
- Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour
- Schedule: 8 hour shift, Monday to Friday
- Benefits: Flexible schedule
