ASME U-Stamp Pressure Vessel Fabrication in Houston, TX | WeldIT

WeldIT is now an ASME U Stamp certified fabricator. We design, fabricate, test, and code-stamp pressure vessels to ASME Section VIII, Division 1, backed by the same certified welders and quality system our industrial clients already trust.

What the U Stamp Means for Your Project

Every ASME U-stamped pressure vessel is built under an ASME-accepted quality control system. That includes engineering design calculations, material traceability, qualified weld procedures (WPS/PQR), required non-destructive examination (NDE), hydrostatic testing, and sign-off by an independent Authorized Inspector before the vessel is stamped.

For your project, that means you can show your jurisdiction, insurer, and plant safety team that each vessel meets ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements. The stamp is what jurisdictions, insurers, and plant safety programs require before a vessel goes into service.

  • Design verification and calculations to ASME Section VIII, Division 1
  • Material test reports and full heat number traceability
  • Qualified WPS and PQR for all production welds
  • Required NDE and hydrostatic testing with records
  • Final review and code stamping by an Authorized Inspector

WeldIT delivers ASME U Stamp pressure vessel fabrication in Houston with the paperwork and traceability your stakeholders expect at mechanical completion, commissioning, and audit time.

Pressure Vessel Fabrication Capabilities

WeldIT designs and fabricates new code vessels in carbon steel, stainless steel, and exotic alloys based on your process requirements. Whether you need vertical or horizontal vessels, receivers, or specialty designs, we work to your drawings, specifications, and project standards.

We frequently build vessels that are part of skid-mounted packages and process systems, integrating nozzles, supports, ladders, platforms, and other structural elements as required. Our fabrication shop pairs with certified mobile welding crews so that field tie-ins, setting, and final adjustments can be handled by one team.

WeldIT can also align your pressure vessel scope with our ASME pipe spooling and prefabrication services, helping you reduce field welds and shorten installation windows. From the initial RFQ to final inspection, you have one contractor responsible for code vessel fabrication and the associated piping and structural steel that completes the system.

Pressure Vessel Repairs & Alterations (R Stamp)

WeldIT also holds the National Board R Stamp for code repairs and alterations to in-service pressure vessels. When an inspector flags an issue, a vessel needs modification for a process change, or you are responding to an unplanned outage, we can support you with shop- or field-work that maintains code compliance.

Our team works from existing data reports and nameplates, develops repair or alteration plans in line with applicable codes, and completes the work under our quality control program. The goal is to return your vessel to service safely, with documentation that meets regulatory and insurance expectations.

Why WeldIT

WeldIT brings the same combination of shop precision and field experience to ASME U Stamp vessels that we bring to structural steel, pipe fabrication, and skid packages. Our welders are certified to AWS and ASME codes, and our process-driven QC program is already trusted by industrial clients such as LyondellBasell, Tyson Foods, and Westway Terminals.

Because we operate both a full-service fabrication shop and mobile crews, we support your entire project lifecycle. We provide 24-hour emergency response for critical issues, coordinate with plant maintenance and reliability teams, and work alongside EPCs and general contractors to keep schedules on track. Every job runs under documented procedures so you know how your vessel was built, inspected, and tested.

Frequently Asked Questions

An ASME U Stamp is a mark applied to new pressure vessels that have been designed, fabricated, inspected, and tested in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 under an ASME-accepted quality control system. It confirms that an Authorized Inspector has reviewed the vessel and its documentation before it leaves the shop.

Many jurisdictions, insurers, and plant safety programs require ASME U-stamped vessels when operating above certain pressures and volumes. Your project specifications, local regulations, and insurance requirements typically define when a U Stamp is mandatory.

Yes. When a pressure vessel is already code-stamped, repairs and alterations usually need to be performed under the National Board R Stamp program to maintain compliance. WeldIT can evaluate the scope, review existing documentation, and perform code repairs or changes in our shop or in the field, subject to inspection requirements.

To quote a new pressure vessel, we typically need design pressure and temperature, material requirements, corrosion allowance, dimensions and orientation, nozzle sizes and locations, insulation or lining details, required code and jurisdiction, and any project specifications or standards that apply. Existing drawings, data sheets, and P&IDs all help speed up the estimating and design process.

Request a quote or upload plans on our contact page or call (866) 338-0491. We offer 24-hour response.

Lead time depends on vessel complexity, material availability, and the current shop schedule. Simple carbon steel receivers and separators typically run 4 to 8 weeks from approved drawings. More complex vessels in stainless steel or exotic alloys, or those requiring extensive NDE, may run 8 to 14 weeks. We will give you a realistic schedule at the RFQ stage and flag any long-lead material items up front.

WeldIT fabricates pressure vessels in carbon steel (including low-temperature and chrome-moly grades), 304 and 316 stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, and exotic alloys such as Inconel, Hastelloy, and Monel. Material selection is driven by your operating pressure, temperature, and process fluid. We work from your specifications or can assist with material selection during the engineering phase.

Yes. A significant portion of our pressure vessel work is integrated into skid-mounted process packages. We coordinate vessel design with the skid layout so that nozzle orientations, support saddle locations, and overall envelope fit the skid footprint. We also fabricate the structural steel base, piping, and instrumentation connections as part of the same scope, giving you a fully assembled, code-compliant package from one contractor.

Our non-destructive examination program is determined by the vessel's design requirements and ASME Section VIII, Division 1 specifications. Common methods include radiographic testing (RT) of weld seams, ultrasonic testing (UT) for thickness and flaw detection, liquid penetrant testing (PT) for surface-breaking defects on stainless steel and exotic alloy welds, and magnetic particle testing (MT) for carbon steel. All NDE is performed by qualified personnel and documented as part of the vessel's data package.

Both. WeldIT can fabricate directly from your engineer's stamped drawings and specifications — we do not require you to use our engineering. We also offer in-house design and engineering for clients who need a design-build approach or who want to hand off the entire scope. In either case, the vessel is fabricated, documented, and code-stamped under our ASME Quality Control Program.
